Review of the HDC Act and the Code of Rights
In 2024, the Health and Disability Commissioner (HDC) completed a review HDC Act and the Code of Rights. This review is required under the HDC Act.
The Act sets out what HDC can do, including how complaints can be resolved, and the Code sets out people’s rights when using health and disability services. Health consumers and key stakeholders had an opportunity to voice their opinions and make recommendations on the HDC Act and the Code of Rights as part of the review. HCAA made two submissions to the HDC - see links in the right hand column. The HDC's Recommendations report has been tabled in Parliament and is available here.
- The Health Consumer Advocacy Alliance submission on the HDC review of the Act and Code of Rights consultation document.
- The Health Consumer Advocacy Alliance early input submission for the HDC Act and Code of Rights Review.
- In 2020 Renate Schütte petitiioned Parliament for the right to appeal HDC decisions. This issue forms part of the current HDC review. You can find the submissions on Renate's petition on the Auckland Women's Health Council website.
